Trekking to Asia’s second-largest monolith
The Oxford dictionary defines the term ‘monolith’ as “a large single upright block of stone, especially one shaped into or serving as a pillar or monument.” And with the Madhugiri Hill, located approximately 100 kms away from Bangalore in the Tumkur district of Karnataka, being the second largest monolith in Asia after Savandurga, you can be certain it’s not going to be your average fort trek.
Madhugiri fort has great historical importance and was originally constructed in the17th century by Raja Hira Gowda. The magnificence of this fort has been attracting tourists from far off places. Malleswara and Venkataramana are two temples situated in Madhugiri
Madhugiri Fort is one of the Adventurous Trekking locations in Bangalore. It is a perfect place to enjoy the cool breeze and enjoy the adventure spirit in you. A trek that becomes challenging as we go up.
From the base, the trek looks easy, its appears that one has to cover a short distance to reach the same. The defensive wall of the Fort will be covering the next hill to the top.
the total distance one way is approximately 3 kms. but the trek is easy in the beginning and gets difficult towards the end and it becomes more like a rock climbing than trekking. It is for people who really enjoys adventure.
The total trekking distance (up & down) of Madhugiri hills is 5.6 km.
It’ll take around 2 hours for you to get from the base to the peak if the weather is conducive.
