Antelope Canyon is an American Southwest slot canyon. Located in Arizona, the slot canyon is wonderful to wander around and the two most scenic sections are the Upper Antelope Canyon (the Crack) and the Lower Antelope Canyon (The Corkscrew), the soft hues of the reddish sandstone rock are bathed in sunbeams that filter down from above, casting a lovely warm glow on everything.
Length: Upper Antelope Canyon: about 660 feet (200 m); Lower Antelope Canyon: about 1,335 feet (407 m)
Depth: about 120 feet (37 m)
Floor elevation: 3,704 ft (1,129 m)
Did you know: Its entrance and entire length are at ground level, requiring no climbing.
Antelope Canyon Geology: Antelope Canyon was formed mainly due to flash floods and sub-aerial processes by the erosion of Navajo sandstone. Rainwater runs into a vast basin above the Slot Canyon, particularly during the monsoon season, and speeds and sand rush through the narrow passes.
